From skincare secrets to bedtime rituals to confidence boosting mantras we can all get behind, the coco team shares the best beauty advice they got from their moms!
“Never go to bed with wet hair!”
My mum taught me 2 things when it came to my hair; don't wash it every day and never go to bed with wet hair! These 2 tips stuck with me since I was little and I still swear by them! - Tom, Head of Brand
“Cleanse your face only with water in the am”
I follow it to this day. I only use cleansers (double cleansing of course) at night! This keeps my skin moisture barrier healthy in the long run. Mama knows best! - Kapie, Design Lead
“NEVER go to bed with make up on, you’ll look old by 30!”
And there were never mascara stains on my pillows again. I think of this no matter how late I head to bed… must. do. nighttime. Skin. routine - Christy, Influencer & Partnerships Manager
“Use a chapstick with SPF!”
And this makes sense, because if you’re already protecting the rest of your face & bod with sunscreen, why leave out the lips? Don’t forget to protect your lips girls! Gotta keep em young, plump and fresh! - Bianca, Marketing Intern
“Get enough sleep every night”
The best piece of beauty advice I got from mum is to get enough sleep every night! I feel like when I get good sleep it really shows on my skin and when I don't my dark circles come out instantly. - Michelle, Influencer Team
“Apply skincare in upward motions”
Mama always says to apply skincare in upward motions to work against gravity and prevent ageing skin, and I fully stand behind it till this day! Thank you mama! - Eilyn, Designer
“Wear body lotion every night before bedtime”
Yes! It’s been a nightly ritual for me (i’ve been doing it since my pre-teen years), to the point I feel uncomfortable when I don’t have a layer of lotion on before sleeping. - Celina, Senior Marketing Manager
“HYDRATE”
Hitting the H20. Turns out, all that nagging to drink up really did help keep my skin soft and hydrated! - Zoee, Junior Designer
“Brush your hair before bedtime”
My mum always told me to brush my hair every night as it boosts hair growth and apparently helps you get a better night’s sleep! This is something I’ve implemented religiously into my beauty routine — and in case you’re wondering, yes i do have nice hair! - Nathalie, Influencer Team
“ALWAYS make time for self-care”
One of the biggest lessons mom taught me is how important self-care is. No matter how busy she is with her long work hours, she never fails to make time for her massages, monthly facials, hair treatments and shopping sprees — and it’s not just for superficial reasons. It’s truly for a peace of mind because when you take care of yourself, you then have more to give to others. — Vidhya, Marketing Specialist
“Protect yourself from UV rays!”
My mother’s advice to me was to always protect your skin from harmful UV rays. She would always insist on me bringing a UV umbrella with me, and to apply sunscreen religiously but i’d dismiss it. As i grew older, I learnt more about how harmful UV rays can be to the skin, and now I never forgot to follow her advice! - Jeanna, Customer Service Manager
“SPF. SPF. SPF.”
The best piece of beauty advice from my mom is to always wear sunscreen! I didn’t follow it when I was younger but I regret it now. Sun damage is real 😭 - Chloe, Marketing Specialist
“Never miss out on freebies”
My mum & I would wait for the gift with purchase bags from Clinique. It was a big highlight for us to go into the department store and get it before it sells out. Then we would share the little gifts out between us all. - Emily, Brand Director
