Think you have your hair routine nailed? Hair us out. Youâre probably making at least one of these all-too-common haircare mistakes! From how you style to how you wash and dry, here are 5 things that you should definitely avoid if youâre chasing more good hair days.
1. Rocking the same style every day
We love a lazy girl topknot as much as the next gal, so we were bummed to discover our go-to do could be damaging our strands. Sorry beauties, but the inconvenient truth is that slick buns, high ponytails and tight braids donât just look cute and save time, they can also cause serious tress stress when worn on repeat.
As well as bringing about breakage, fraying and ugly split ends, daily up dos â especially tight ones â can even result in traction alopecia. Aka hair loss!
To give your hair a break (while reducing breakage), start by choosing good-quality fabric hair elastics that wonât tug, snag or fray your hair. Regularly ditch the super tight styles in favour of something a little more loosey-goosey, and switch up your styling habits as often as possible. Who knows, you might even find some new favourite looks in the process!Â
2. Using cheap, supermarket shampoo
If you want healthy, happy hair, opt for a professional product, or do your research before reaching for a cheap supermarket shampoo. Why? Some of the latter are packed with cheap, drying detergents and chemicals, while others contain poor-quality ingredients that coat the strands (to enhance shine), leading to build up and dullness over time.

3. Not looking after your scalp!
Looking after your hair but itâs still a bit âmehâ? Newsflash: Good haircare habits donât begin with the hair â it all starts at the scalp! So, if youâre not showing your scalp some regular TLC, your hair will never look as good as it can. Or grow super shiny, long and strong.
Used once weekly, our Like A Virgin Deep Clean Scalp Scrub is an intensive pre-shampoo treatment that gently but effectively exfoliates and deep cleans the scalp. Sloughing away dead skin cells with Balinese volcanic clay and natural exfoliators, it removes excess oil and product build up to combat flakes, dullness, grease and itching.
Stimulating with caffeine, hydrating with coconut oil and soothing with peppermint, it also strengthens the hair follicles and promotes a healthy hair growth environment. So, if you want great hair, get scrubbing!

4. Skipping a weekly mask sesh
Blow drying, heat styling, bleaching, swimming, sun⌠There are loads of things that can sap your hair of moisture and leave you with dull, dry, damaged strands. The best (and most enjoyable) way to replenish and strengthen stressed-out hair is with a regular hair masque routine â once, twice or even three times a week.Â
Packed with raw virgin coconut oil, fig and shea butter, linseed and argan oils, our heaven-scented Like A Virgin Hair Masque returns hair to its most gorgeous state in 10 minutes. Taming, conditioning and repairing strands from the inside out, it nourishes and revitalises parched, frizzy and lacklustre locks like nobodyâs business.
(Psst: Not sure where to start? Our article on the 5 rules of hair masking has you covered!)Â
5. Drying your hair with a regular towel
Regular cotton towels (especially those extra crispy ones that exfoliate your bod as you dry), arenât so great for drying wet hair. The uneven fabric can snag, roughing up, stretching and weaking wet strands, causing split ends and upping the frizz factor.
If a cotton towelâs all you have lying around though, donât worry. You can definitely reduce the damage by squeezing excess moisture out of the hair with your towel, rather than vigorously rubbing.Â
But if you really want to show your hair you care? Always use a microfibre towel. Soft and friction-free, these bathroom essentials prevent fly-aways and dreaded frizz, while also helping to drastically cut down on blow drying time. Whatâs not to love?!
